How it is calculated
Formula. Not a single metric. Assess liquidity, maturities, covenants, the going-concern assumption, financing headroom and operating cash flows together.
Why it matters for small caps
For small caps, tight financing lines, low diversification and illiquid assets can limit the ability to react.
Common misreadings
- Positive equity or an operating profit does not rule out insolvency. Conversely, a loss-making year does not automatically mean insolvency.
